Dec 27th 2007 - After what seems like an eternity, I have finally got the engine into the the chassis! With the aid of a borrowed engine crane, it was actually quite easy, and I managed it on my own, despite asking various friends to be on standby to give me a hand! I had to take the front wheels off and put the front on axle stands because the engine crane legs were to wide to go inside or outside the road wheels. Once this was sorted I simply took the chassis cross members off, and with the engine on one lifting strap, which was basically positioned at the central point of balance for the engine/gearbox, I shuffled the engine crane together with its cargo forwards. Once it was near enough in position, I lowered, pushed, eased and swore a bit (!!), and it was finally in position to fix the engine and gearbox mounts. You will notice that I have fed the bolts for the gearbox mounting bracket from underneath with the Nyloc nuts on top. This is at the advice of Andy at GD to preserve as much space as possible underneath for the fitting of the exhaust system. Once the engine was in I fitted the starter motor. I haven't tested this as I don't have a battery, but if it doesn't work I'll swap it. It's not to much of a job to get it in and out.
Now that deserves a few drinks (as if I haven't had enough this Christmas!!)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
