20th July 2010 - After messing about with various adhesives (EvoStick Impact for one), none of which were brilliant, I took advice from the forum and sent for some Alpha S1358. I got it from William Marston Ltd. It aint cheap (£12 for a litre of adhesive and £20 for the thinner\cleaner) but it does exactly what it says on the tin, and I am only going to need it once!! Once coat on the fibre glass and one on the carpet, leave 5 minutes and apply. You only get one chance, so make sure its in the right place!! I fitted the first pieces tonight, one being the awkward bit round the door. The floor carpets won't be stuck down, I will use studs, but I just laid one in to see what they looked like. I'm happy with the glue....and the carpet! Watch this space.................

9th Jan 2011 - Waiting for better weather, so thought I would catch up with a few odd jobs that needed doing. First one was to put some studs on the foot well carpets to hold them in place. This was relatively easy. I had bought the studs and fittings when I bought the carpets. The way they work is that a circular claw type thing (!!!) is pushed into the pile of the carpet so that the three spikes poke through the other side. The press stud part of the press stud is then fitted over the spikes and the spikes are folded over to hold it in place. Bending the spikes over tightens everything up and the top part is pulled into the pile and pretty much hidden. All that is needed then is to screw the stud part into the floor and clip the carpet on.................simple!!

27th Oct 2010 - Time to carpet the boot. Firstly I had to somehow create an even surface on top of the tank and then I had to  box in the fuel pump and filter.

I first got some MDF, and using a cardboard template cut the two half's to fit on top of the tank (using one piece, I couldn't get it in the boot!!). I Cut slots using a jig saw to accommodate the roll bar legs. This would also let me take the boxing off easily in the unlikely event I need to get at the tank again.

Secondly I made a box to cover the pump and filter. Having made the box and test fitted together with the tank tops (not a 60's reference!!), I set about carpeting the fuel filter box. I then carpeted the rear of the boot and the sides (all these bits cuts from Lee Topham's templates). Once I was happy I fixed a retaining bracket to the box which I bolted through the floor with an M4. This will be relatively easy to get off should I need to get at the pump.

All that was left for the time being was to carpet the top and face of the tank. I am quite pleased with the result. Not as professional maybe as GD's custom made ones, but   I am pleased, and who see's them in the boot??!! One point, the carpet is black although it shows up a bit grey in the camera flash.

I havn't carpeted the inside rear round the back of the lights yet. I am contemplating making some sort of box to put over them and protect them like in your every day car. That can wait for now though.

5th August 2010 -  I finished the cockpit carpets and glued everything in tonight. I am quite pleased with them all things considered. There are a few bits that aren't perfect, but most of those are in places you won't see once the seats are in. I have marked and made holes for the seats and belt anchor points and just need now to fit the studs for the foot well carpets. The carpets under the seats are obviously held in by the seat and seat belt bolts so don't need any more securing. The whole lot including glue (3 x 1litre tins), and edging, cost about £320 (included in that is the carpet for the boot which I haven't finished yet).  They are maybe not as good as the GD supplied ones but are quite a saving for me, and I certainly need the money for other bits and pieces!!

27th July 2010 -  Did a bit more carpeting this evening. I wanted to get to the stage where I could fit the dash, and I now am. I'm really quite pleased with the way the carpets are looking and once again want to thank Lee Topham for the templates and the inspiration to do it myself!

16th July 2010 - Got the carpets back today from the upholsterer! Only gave her them yesterday, now that's  service, and she only charged me £30!!! May not be as perfect as the factory supplied ones, but I'm happy with them, and  the saving is brilliant.

Better get stuck in this weekend then!!

26th June 2010 - I have now got the front carpet set cut out and just need to get the required edges bound. I thought I had someone local to do it but thats fallen through. I need to get this sorted so I can fit the dash and seats. Better scan yellow pages!!

Using the templates and some dress making chalk to draw round them, I have started cutting the various parts of the set out. Watch this space for more progress.........!!

21st June 2010 - I have decided to make the carpet set myself. As good as the GD ones are, I thought I would give it a go and try and save a bit of money for other things. Lee Topham who did his own for his beautiful Cobra agree to lend  me the templates he made so a while ago I drove up to Yorkshire and borrowed them. Lee has made them out of wallpaper lining paper and they are spot on.

I eventually decided on black for the carpet so I went to Woolies near Peterborough and picked some up along with the edging strip.
