6th Sept 07 - Finally picked up Chassis
GD427 J0258!!! I was worried about getting it on the roof rack, but as you
see from the pictures, it was no real problem. Got to admit though I was
fairly steady on the way home!! See the picture below of one very happy
bunny!!!
Couple of things missing which I need to sort out. I forgot to
ask Andy for a Chassis Bolt pack, and the steering racks are on back order.
I also didn't get a build manual. Fortunately, I only work 15 minutes away
from Gardner Douglas so I can nip down tomorrow lunch hopefully, and get the
bolt pack and build manual.
31st Jan 09 - Seems a long time ago
when I took delivery of the Chassis!! I haven't much to do until the body
comes, so I decided to put the Tunnel Cover Plate on, after first cutting a
hole for the gearstick to go through. I used a 4" Bosch hole cutter
attachment on my Pillar drill. Made a lot of noise but cut a neat hole!!
Thinking about it after I'd done it,
I will probably have to take the Tunnel Cover Plate off again when I am
checking the brake and clutch lines before the body goes on. Still, that's
no real problem and I wanted to get the gear stick hole measured and cut
anyway!!
16th Dec 07 - Into the daylight!!! Got fed up with trying
to get the bump steer on the front axle perfect, so I've decided to accept
the setup I have so far (which isn't to far out - I don't think!!!), and
then get it checked and sorted if necessary after completion.
So.........the rolling chassis is essentially sorted, and I showed it the
daylight for the first time!!! (and I wanted to turn it round in the
garage ready for engine installation!).
18th Oct 07 - Dinitrol'd the Chassis
this evening. GD say use something like Wax Oil or the like. Dinitrol ML has
a good name and was easy to use in an aerosol form. I just squirted it down
the body mounting bracket holes and also the rivnut holes for the tunnel
cover. One can was enough.
7th Sept 07 - Rang Andy up about the bolt pack. He had forgotten to
put them in, but as I live so close I drove over at lunchtime and picked
them up.
Problem I have now is no garage time!! I am tied up this weekend and off
to France next week for my company. Hopefully get some time in next weekend!
5th Sept 07 - Spoke to Andy at GD today,
and my chassis is back from the Powder Coater's and will be ready for pick
up tomorrow!! Now I'm worried about the roof rack, but I'm sure it will be
fine!!! Watch this space............
17th Aug 07 - Spoke to Andy at GD and he
told me the Chassis is being built next week. He also said that if he could
get the powder coating booked in for the week after, I should have the
Chassis for the first week in September!! Better get on with the Rear axle!!
23rd June 07 -
E-mailed GD with the extra bits I want to pick up when the Chassis is ready
for collection. These are:
|
Chassis with Silver Powder Coat finish |
|
Steering Rack (Jag) |
|
Roll over mount (GDJag) |
|
Adjustable Dampers (set of 6) GDJag |
|
Coil Springs (set of 6) GDJag |
|
10mm rigid fuel line (Chassis run) |
|
Rigid brake line set – GDJag |
|
Brake Union Mounting Block |
|
Rover V8 Alternator bracket |
Once that lot comes it should keep me occupied for
a while!!
22nd June 07 - Visited
Gardner Douglas and ordered my Chassis!!! Quite a milestone (for me
anyway!!) and I was very excited!!. Weather was horrible so couldn't go for
a ride in the test car, but spent the morning there chatting to Andy, Meena
and Craig. They are really friendly and helpful, and made me feel very
welcome. I had a good look round, and was pleased that they had a Mk4 bodied
car in for finishing so I could have a good look and compare the differences
with the Mk3. Got to admit, I like the black and also like the Halibrands
with black insert!! (long way before I need to worry about that though!!!).
I paid my deposit, and Andy has
given me a lead time of between 4 and 8 weeks, so I better get the garage
ship shape. I also have to send Andy a list of the bits and pieces I want to
pick up at the same time as the chassis (suspension, steering rack, brake
lines etc etc).
Can't Wait!!!
